DOUALA: Record customs seizure 600kg of pangolin scales, 200 live parrots, 3 elephant tusks etc. taken in the night of December 23 to 24 at Bonabéri.

“It’s a record seizure.” This customs official does not hide his satisfaction after the operation carried out on the night of December 23 to 24 last in Bonabéri (district of Douala IV). 

The seizure, carried out by a team from Operation Halcomi (Stop illegal trade), which had reached its third phase, in zone 1, took place in a cove where two large canoes with outboard motors had docked. Boats with striking content. 

Thus, the team of customs officers led by Captain Achille Kamdem got hold of three bags of pangolin scales, initially evaluated at 600kg, 200 live parrots with red tails contained in wooden boxes, and three tusks of elephants. 

This is on the wildlife side. During the same operation, the gabelous seized 122 cartons of liquors (including 22 cartons of Absolute Vodka) and 96 cartons of wines and spirits (including 60 cartons of Ruinart). To this must be added 18 cartons of cigarettes. 

According to the latest news, the cargo seized is on the premises of the former general directorate of customs in Douala. The traffickers arrested will deal with the judicial authorities. For smuggling and trafficking in prohibited products.
